On Friday night, August 15th I was once again given the pleasure of capturing the evening through photography at the Jazz Upstairs. Hot Bijouxx performed an energetic mélange of Prohibition-era jazz, brilliantly combining story telling with the music. The 4 piece jazz band was complimented by the vocals of Najwa Parkins. Another great night of great jazz on the 3rd floor of Miller Symphony.

Lehigh Valley International Airport put on this show last year and it was a huge success. They did it again this year and it was equally as good, if not slightly better. It took place last weekend and Sunday was the prettier day. However, I thought Saturday made for a more dynamic photographic opportunity, which is the day I shot.
Last month’s Jazz Cabaret was another sellout. The Eric Mintel Quartet mastered the balance of the acoustics in Miller Symphony’s Hall’s Rodale Room on Friday July 18th. I had the pleasure of photographing the Quartet while they played songs from Coldplay, Sting, Aerosmith and others as well as many of their own originals. Their performance was enticing and audience engaging.
I debated with my self this morning. It was raining – stay inside or brave the elements. I made the decision to grab the Olympus TG-850 and head outside. I wasn’t disapointed.
May’s Jazz Cabaret at Miller Symphony was another great evening! Paris based vocalist Viktorija Gecyte graced the audience with her alluring themes,accompanied by Go Trio with Gene Perla. Other band members included Sean Gough on piano, Gene Perla on bass, Colby Inszer on drums and special guest trumpeter Joe Magnarelli. The band kept the audience entertained for the entire performance.
A few weeks back I had the privilege of photographing Bill Goodwin, a professional drummer with an extended list of past performances and bands. Goodwin played with his quartet at Miller Symphony Hall- Jazz Cabaret. The quartet performed selections from Goodwin’s new CD “Raise Four”. Yesterday I took my usual Saturday morning hike down in the Lehigh Parkway and was greeted with the first dose of spring. Finally! I also had the opportunity to enjoy my new Olympus OM-D E-M10 with the ultra compact electric wide zoom M.Zuiko 14-42mm f3.5-5.6 lens. I can tell you this mini combo is quite the powerhouse. It was as easy to use as it was to carry.
A couple of weeks ago, I had the pleasure of seeing Gene Perla with his newly formed group, Funk Xpress, play upstairs at the Miller Symphony Hall, Jazz Cabaret Series. The performance was highly energizing and extremely entertaining. The band consists of renowned talent that successfully captivated the audience with a variety of music choices. I concluded an exhibit at the historic State Theatre in Easton, PA at the beginning of the year. I was fortunate to display in both galleries. Several people who were not able to attend have asked me to share some of the images from the exhibit. The first grouping is a sampling of the images from the “Near” portion of the exhibit in the one gallery. This exhibit consisted of 20 images I have taken over the course of 6 years from my Saturday morning walks in the Lehigh Parkway with my canine companion, Bo. All of the images displayed were taken within an approximate two mile radius. One of the points I wanted to make was that you do not need to travel far to photograph and that there can be extreme diversity within a small area. The following is a small sampling of some of the images displayed. Within the next day or two I will share the “Far” images.
