Lemon Drinka

Every year I try to make the pilgrimage to the annual Kutztown Folk Festival. It is the oldest continuously operated folklife festival in America. This nine-day event draws visitors from all over the world. The festival provides insight into the traditions of the Pennsylvania Dutch and their fascinating way of life. I try to keep a low profile and thought the small but mighty Olympus PEN-F would be my camera of choice for this visit. It clearly did not disappoint. I used the prime M.Zuiko 17mm f1.8 lens for all of the images.

    Dear Frank,
As a long time K’town resident ’72-’92, your photographs of the “folk Festival” brought back many fond memories. The images (excellent as always!) took me back to a special time in my life. From working the festival as a college student through starting my own photography/video business, this was a time of growth from late adolescence into adulthood: and now a semi-retired landscape photographer and gallery owner in Selkirk, Scotland (where God comes to paint with ligh!), the series was very special for me.
    Thanks for the memories!

Looks like a fabulous time, Frank! I agree, the Pen-F and the M Zuiko Premium line of prime lenses are perfect for a walk-about without getting undue attention. Although more than once, I’ll have someone come up and nod approvingly and say something like “Ah, film, very cool!”. I find that the Pen-F also seems to put people at ease and put a smile on their face (almost like holding a puppy!). Thanks for sharing your festival images, it makes me want to head up to PA this weekend!

Stan, Good to hear from you and thanks for the nice comments. I totally agree with you about putting people at ease. It’s not to late to run to PA. The festival runs through this weekend.
