Historic Bridge Details

I’m fortunate to live in an area that has diversity as it relates to contemporary & historic structures. However, I find myself drawn more to the historic structures. These two images were taken with the Olympus OM-D E-M1 and the M.Zuiko ED 300mm f4.0 IS PRO lens. This lens has a full frame 600mm equivalent which is great for creating compression in the image. Which was what I was trying accomplish with these images.

This covered bridge is know as Bogert’s Bridge. It was built in 1841-42. It takes its name from the Bogert family. Peter Bogert purchased the land on which the bridge is located in 1744 as part of his farm. Its most distinctive feature is two long arch trusses resting on abutments at either end. Of which, was my focus for the following images.

Moving Clouds at Lehigh University

I continue to do some more daytime experimenting with Olympus’ “Live Composite” mode. This a mode that is available on the OM-D series cameras. What it does, is allows you to take a sequence of exposures and build them over a period of time. The brilliant part about this is it won’t exceed any highlights and, the icing on the cake, is it produces an in-camera RAW file. Under normal circumstances, you would “blow out” the highlights in the image. Normally this process is used in evening photography. However, with the use of a neutral density (ND) filter you can create a daytime shot that appears to be in low light. The use of a tripod is an absolute necessity. Some of these exposures are about 5 minutes in length. The result is a beautiful painterly effect in the sky from the moving clouds. Lehigh University has a gorgeous campus and, with the right conditions, makes this an ideal location for this type of image.

Grand Central Terminal 2016

I had the opportunity to lead a trip back to Grand Central Terminal a few weeks ago for the Lehigh Valley Photography Club. All images & video were shot with Olympus OM-D E-M1 and E-M5 MkII. I have photographed this place many times. However, on this trip we were able to go into the belly of the beast. In addition to going to the highest point, we also went 13 stories below to see the heart of the complex. I have also included a brief video from the day. This place continues to amaze me every time I go!

Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area

This is an area that I have photographed in the past. It’s know as the Zimmerman Farm. However, it’s been several years since I traveled back to this area. I shot these images shortly after the last snow storm we had. The area is still as I remember it. All of the images were shot with the Olympus OM-D E-M5 Mark II. Mother nature was more than cooperative this day. The light was beautiful and the textures on the buildings were amazing.

Washington Memorial Chapel

Last weekend during my visit to Valley Forge we stopped by the Washington Memorial Chapel which is located within the Valley Forge National Historical Park. The Images were shot with the Olympus OM-D E-M5 Mk II using the 7-14mm f2.8 PRO lens. The inside shots were handheld at 1/20 of a second at ISO 3200.

The Chapel was built in 1903 to serve two purposes. The first purpose is as a tribute to George Washington and his service to our country. It currently serves as a wayside chapel for the visitors of Valley Forge National Historical Park. The second purpose is as the home for the Episcopal parish that worships at the chapel.

The chapel is constructed in an impressive Gothic Revival style with a Bell Tower. The Bell Tower houses the Justice Bell, a replica of the Liberty Bell, which was used in the campaign to gain women’s voting rights. The Veterans Wall of Honor honors all veterans of the United States Armed Services.

Jacobsburg State Park

Last week I visited Jacobsburg State Park located near Wind Gap in Bushkill Township, Northampton County, PA. This was my first visit to this 1,168 acre park. There are 18.5 miles of trails. The flora, even at this time of the year was amazing. All of the images were shot with the Olympus OM-D E-M10 Mark II and a combination of the 7-14mm & 12-40mm f2.8 PRO lenses.

Valley Forge National Historic Park

On New Year’s day I had the opportunity to spend the day with some dear friends in the this beautiful park. Valley Forge park was the site of the 1777-78 winter encampment of the Continental Army. The park commemorates the sacrifices and perseverance of the Revolutionary War generation. The park consists of approximately 3,500 acres. It was very cold, but very invigorating. All images were taken with the Olympus OM-D E-M5 MkII and the 7-14mm f2.8 PRO lens (one exception – the image of the tree base I used the 12-40mm).

Masonic Temple Treasures

The Masonic Temple in Bethlehem, PA is being sold. As a result of the pending sale, they held an auction on Saturday. There were many photographic treasures throughout the main floor. All of the following images were shot with the new Olympus OM-D E-M10 Mk II.
