World War II Weekend – The Aircraft (post 1 of 4)

Last month, The Reading Airport hosted the 24th annual World War II Weekend. It was presented by the Mid-Atlantic Air Museum of Reading, PA.  There were all types of WWII aircraft, vehicles, military personnel and reenactments throughout the weekend. There had to be several thousand attendees. This, of course, creates all types of challenges as a photographer. However, I think I was able to do a reasonably decent job of keeping the spectators out of the images. I decided I would break this post into four series [The Aircraft, The Americans (one & two) and Behind Enemy Lines]. Enjoy!

4th of July Rain Hike

I debated with my self this morning. It was raining – stay inside or brave the elements. I made the decision to grab the Olympus TG-850 and head outside. I wasn’t disapointed.

Peace Valley Park 2014

Yesterday morning I made the trek down to Peace Valley Park in Bucks County, PA. It is clearly one of my favorite places to shoot. The day and the wether were perfect!

Pennhurst State School and Hospital (1 of 2)

In keeping with the Halloween theme for this time of the year, I thought now would be a good time to post this. During the summer, I had the opportunity to visit Pennhurst State School & Hospital, originally known as the Eastern Pennsylvania State Institution for the Feeble-Minded and Epileptic positioned on the border between Chester County and Montgomery County in Pennsylvania. In 1903, the Pennsylvania Legislature authorized the creation of the institution and a commission was organized to take into consideration the number and status of the feeble-minded and epileptic persons in the state and determine a placement for construction to care for these residents. From 1903 to 1908 the first buildings were constructed. On November 23, 1908, “Patient number 1” was admitted to the hospital. Within four years of operation, Pennhurst was already overcrowded. I can only imagine what it must have been like to arrive at this place. I was able to gain access through the efforts of Denise Ippolito, a very talented photographer. Here is a link to her website.

This blog will consist of two posts. The first one is of the general campus and the next one will be the Administrative building.

VIA Marathon

I was asked to photograph The Lehigh Valley Health Network VIA Marathon two weeks ago. It was an amazing experience, even though it required a 5:00 in morning start. Here are a few images from the day.

The Great Allentown Fair

The fair and agricultural show is held at the Allentown Fairgrounds in Allentown PA. It is operated by the Lehigh County Agricultural Society. It is one of the oldest fairs in the United States and one of the largest in Pennsylvania. The first fair was held in 1852. There are so many photographic opportunities. It is sometimes difficult to decide where to point the camera. This is part one of two posts. These images are all in color. The next post will be all black & white.

Wheels of Time

Last weekend I photographed the 35th Annual Wheels of Time Rod & Custom Jamboree. The event is held every year on the weekend before Labor Day. The Wheels of Time Street Rod Association is a non-profit charitable organization dedicated to the art of street-rodding. The place is filled with amazing colors. During my visit, I was more focussed on some of the event’s activities and the components of the car, rather than the car itself.
