Black Hill Regional Park

On Saturday I was in Maryland and made a trip to the Black Hill Regional Park outside of Germantown. The weather was very thretening most of the time. However, there were a few times the sun peaked through the thick cloud cover. The wait was worth it!

Spring has Sprung

Yesterday I took my usual Saturday morning hike down in the Lehigh Parkway and was greeted with the first dose of spring. Finally! I also had the opportunity to enjoy my new Olympus OM-D E-M10 with the ultra compact electric wide zoom M.Zuiko 14-42mm f3.5-5.6 lens. I can tell you this mini combo is quite the powerhouse. It was as easy to use as it was to carry.

Biltmore Estate

A couple of weeks ago I had the opportunity to be traveling close to Asheville, NC. So I took the opportunity to visit an amazing place, The Biltmore Estate.  The main house and primary attraction was built between 1889 & 1895 by George Washington Vanderbilt. Back in the day it was the largest house in the USA at 178,926 square feet. As a photographer, the only disappointment was, they don’t allow any photography inside. But, there are plenty of images to be had outside and around the many grounds and gardens.

Macro Monday

I decided to change things up a bit and just shoot some macro spring flowers.

Golden Age Air Museum

This past weekend, I had the opportunity to lead a Photo Workshop/Expedition to the Golden Age Air Museum in Bethel, PA. The airfield and museum has an amazing collection of old planes and antique cars. The owner and volunteers for the museum went well beyond our expectations, as far as being accommodating and creating a fun filled environment. The Expedition consisted of airborne planes, stationary planes, volunteers dressed in period clothing and professional model, Tamantha Yanders, who had to endure some challenging moments. A special thanks to Dan’s Camera City and Jason Mahoney, a very talented photographer, who initiated and arranged the event. And a BIG thanks to Olympus for sponsoring the expedition.

Lonanconing Silk Mill

A week and a half ago I traveled to the Lonaconing Silk Mill in Lonaconing, Maryland (this is about as far west as you can go in Maryland). I traveled with a photography group led by a very talented photographer, Denise Ippolito. I had seen some images in the past and my hopes were that the mill would still have some equipment in place. Well, I can tell you my expectations were more than met. The 4+ hour drive was more than worth it. Nature’s elements are starting to penetrate the building. The gentleman who owns the facility, Herb, is trying to figure out a way to save the structure.  The last time it was in operation was 1957.

Jim Thorpe Treasures

I was in Jim Thorpe last Saturday exploring some new treasures. I have been there several times in the past. But, I was introduced to some new locations this time. All of the following images were taken with the new Olympus OM-D EM-5. Let me say, this is one amazing piece of equipment! I was expecting a lot and I can tell you, it surpassed all of my expectations.

Washington, D.C. – Train-ing

The end of last month I was in Washington, D.C. for Photoshop World (PSW). In addition to attending the many presentations they offered, I planned to capture the Cherry Blossoms. However, mother nature changed my plans, somewhat, by introducing some precipitation. Well no worries, I just went underground into the Metro system and ultimately over to Union Station.
