This past weekend turned out to be a perfect time for a spring hike in the middle of winter. I went to the Bethlehem Tow Path, which provides for great views of the blast furnaces of the former Betlehem Steel plant.

Trexler Park
This past weekend Bo and I visited Trexler Park in Allentown, PA. My dad use to take me here as a kid & I haven’t been here since that time. The park was originally developed by industrialist and civil leader Harry Clay Trexler as a sanctuary for birds and other wildlife. The historic Spring House structure is located here which was built in 1741. The log cabin served as the summer home of the Trexler family.

Hunter’s Cabin & Bogert’s Bridge
A great day to photograph some history. The cabin was built in circa 1739-1741 and the bridge as seen was built around 1841. Happy New Year.

Lehigh Valley Dairy
Earlier this week we were looking for some structures near the proposed hockey arena in downtown Allentown to photograph. Our thinking was we should try to capture some images before the demolition starts. Well it looks like we might have been about a week or two to late. Many of the areas have already been fenced off. So we decided to leave and started heading up (north) on 7th Street. As we were heading towards Route 22 we noticed some construction equipment at the former Lehigh Valley Dairy. I didn’t want to also be to late for this location. So the decision was made to stop and capture some images. This building was the old processing headquarters for the dairy. This place brings back memories when my dad would take my brother and me for ice cream (if we promised we would not fight with each other in the car on the way over). The facade is made up of some beautiful art deco tiles.

Film Noir
During the InVision Photo Festival in Bethlehem, PA earlier this month, Dan’s Camera City put on a “Film Noir” workshop. It was incredible FUN! The two Aussies, who ran the program (Shelton & Glynn) made the program a blast and informative. Mike W. was kind enough to allow me to participate the one evening. Here are a few images from the shoot.
A little over a week ago I had the opportunity to shoot at the National Museum of Industrial History (NMIH) located on the former Bethlehem Steel property in Bethlehem, PA. This was an incredible experience. The staff was extremely helpful during the couple of hours we were shooting. Their web site indicates their purpose is to tell the story of America’s Industrial achievements and the accomplishments of its inventors, managers and preserve the record of industry’s development and advancements from the middle 1800’s until present time.

Autumn Snow
It’s hard to believe we had snow before Halloween this year. Even though we didn’t have any electricity last week for 4 days after the storm, I was able to get to out and capture some of the scenery. It is the first time I can remember seeing snow on the autumn leaves. Let’s hope this is not an indication of what is yet to come.
