Burnside Plantation

Bethlehem, PA has a little gem known as the Burnside Plantation. It is a 6.5 acre plantation listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Originally purchased by James Burnside in 1748. He than sold 200 acres to a group of Moravians in 1751. In 1986 Lehigh County bought the plantation. Most people visit and photograph it in the warmer months. It was a treat to see it covered in snow.

Snow – Say it ain’t so

Yes I ventured out into the peak of Saturday’s snow storm. The area I covered took about two and a half times as long as it would under normal conditions. There were areas I went through that were thigh high. That aside, it was absolutely beautiful and very serene.

Vegas (And NO Snow)

Last week I was in Las Vegas for an annual conference/convention. I must admit it was nice not seeing any snow for a couple days. I was able to get out for a brief bit and capture some of the Vegas scenes.

Winter’s Hold

It was another cold one yesterday. But at least we were able to see some blue sky.

Expansions: The Dave Liebman Group

A few weeks back I was again privileged to be the photographer for the Jazz Cabaret at Miller Symphony.Β  The group we enjoyed was led by Dave Liebman and was called Expansions – The Dave Liebman Group.Β  Liebman is a renowned jazz musician and has played with many of the masters including Miles Davis, Elvin Jones, Chick Corea and others and having been recorded in over 300 pieces. Liebman has also authored books and instructional DVDs which are acknowledged as classics in the jazz field.Β  Liebman has begun to introduce new younger generation musicians to his band, hence the name β€œThe Expansions”.Β  These newcomers are being inspired and taught by Liebman.Β  The music we enjoyed ranged from classical, free and traditional jazz.

Treichlers Bridge

Yesterday we were promised some winter sunshine, which never really materialized. So the the dilemma – what to shoot with all of the overcast sky. Trying to find some building ruins in Treichlers, PA, we stumbled across the base of the Treichlers bridge. The geometry was fun and the sun peaked out for a few minutes. The views are from both sides of the river.

Arctic Chill

I debated with myself on Saturday morning. Do I leave the comfy confines of my warm home or do I brave the elements. I opted to brave the elements and those elements included a zero degree fahrenheit temperature. Lucky for me there was a not a cloud in the sky and there was a fresh blanket of snow on the ground. Would I do it again – You Betcha!

Hurricane Sandy, NJ

Hurricane Sandy did significant damage up and down the east coast. One area hit the hardest was Seaside Heights, NJ. I had heard about the devastation in this particular area and wanted to witness it myself. The police presence was much greater than I would have guessed. It was actually very difficult to photograph the area because of the police restrictions. I guess all total, it was a good thing they were there in force. Here are a few images from my visit which includes artifacts salvaged from various places on the former boardwalk. By way of an update, they have started the restoration work.

Main St. Bridge

I went to Northampton, PA with the intent of photographing some ice flows in the Lehigh River. However, there was little to no ice flow to be seen. But I was treated to some nice reflections and a sunset. The shots were taken on the east side of the river looking northwest from Canal Street.
