Delaware Water Gap Blending Live Composite

This video will show you how I blended a daytime Live Composite image with a conventional long exposure from the Delaware Water Gap on top of Mount Minsi in Pennsylvania looking at Mount Tammany in New Jersey. To get here I will show you my winter hike along the way on the Appalachian Trail. As I move along the trail, I’ll share some of my images. Some of the vistas along the way are breathtaking. I was in Cape May, NJ last week for a presentation to the Photography Club of Cape May. Cape May is one of my very favorite places. For me I find it very relaxing and filled with all types of photographic opportunities. If I don’t have my Olympus OM-D E-M1 MkII with me, I always carry the ever trusty and versatile TG-5. The morning before my presentation, I had an hour or two to grab a couple of shots from Gurney Street. The handful of homes on this street are the famous Victorian Stockton Row (circa 1869). Since I was doing a presentation on Architectural photography, I thought is was quite appropriate to grab some shots here. All of the images were shot with the TG-5 and I must admit I am always blown away with the results of this little powerhouse.

Ellis Island – The Unseen

A few weeks ago, I had the opportunity to participate with the Lehigh Valley Photography Club, by visiting a “hard hat only” area of Ellis Island. We were given access to the immigrant hospital buildings, which included the infectious and contagious disease wards, kitchen and the mortuary and autopsy room. We also visited the Laundry Building, with much of its original equipment still in place, where over 3000 pieces of laundry were washed and sanitized daily. To say the experience was incredible would be an understatement. The texture and patterns are amazing. My only challenge, was not being able to utilize a tripod. However, because I shoot with the Olympus OM-D E-M1 MkII, I can handhold the camera for long exposures with the built-in 5 axis image stabilization. My two main lenses for this shoot were the M.Zuiko ED 7-14mm f2.8 PRO and M.Zuiko ED 8mm F1.8 Fisheye PRO.

Lumberville – Raven Rock Bridge

This past weekend I ventured to an area on the Delaware River known as the Lumberville – Raven Rock Bridge. The reason it was of interest to me is because it is a foot bridge. In this day and age, one rarely sees this. The original bridge was built in 1856 and what we see today was reconstructed in 1947. It connects Lumberville, PA and Raven Rock, NJ. The design was handled by John A. Roebling who is most famous for his design of the Brooklyn Bridge. All images were shot with the Olympus OM-D E-M5 MkII and the M.Zuiko ED 7-14mm f2.8 PRO or the ED 8mm F1.8 Fisheye PRO.

Sunset Beach Water Tower

A few weeks ago I was in Cape May NJ. We were working our way towards Sunset Beach. The plan was to get some shots of the abandoned water tower. I thought it might be a 30 – 60 minute shoot. It ended up being a couple of hours. I was quite amazed with the place. It sits on a Magnesite plant that was active during WWII. The plant was used to make Magnesite which was used to make steel among other industrial supplies. All of the shots were taken with my Olympus 7-14 f2.8 lens. The location begged to be shot with a wide angle lens and processed in B&W.

Chasing the Light at the Jersey Shore

Last week we did our annual family vacation in Cape May, NJ. The weather was more than cooperative and it was fun spending time with the family. We typically plan one evening at the boardwalk in Wildwood. Unbeknownst to most of the group, I wanted to make an effort to catch the “Golden hour” and the “Blue hour” and, if at all possible, be on the ferris wheel at that time. As luck (and a little bit of planning) had it, I was able to pull it off. All of the images were shot with the Olympus OM-D E-M10 & the 14-42mm lens.

Red Mill

A couple of weeks ago I photographed the Red Mill in Clinton, NJ. I have seen many images from here, but I never checked it out myself. I now know why this is such a popular spot. The first image is a more conventional shot of the mill that I shot with my OM-D E-M1 with the 7-14mm lens. The second one, however, was shot from the other side of the river with the waterproof TG-850. The reason I mention this is because I made this shot with the camera being about 50% under water. I was able to do this because of the 180 degree flip LCD screen. To the best of my knowledge, this is the only underwater camera with a flip screen.

Hurricane Sandy, NJ

Hurricane Sandy did significant damage up and down the east coast. One area hit the hardest was Seaside Heights, NJ. I had heard about the devastation in this particular area and wanted to witness it myself. The police presence was much greater than I would have guessed. It was actually very difficult to photograph the area because of the police restrictions. I guess all total, it was a good thing they were there in force. Here are a few images from my visit which includes artifacts salvaged from various places on the former boardwalk. By way of an update, they have started the restoration work.

Sand in My Shoes
